A NEW library is set to open in a bid to replace an axed council-run mobile service. The facility will be based in Blurton Community Centre and will provide more than 500 books for loan. Firefighters tackle blaze at derelict chicken farm in Blurton

FIREFIGHTERS have been dealing with an incident at a chicken farm. Two Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Longton were called to the incident at the former Blurton Poultry Farm, on Barlaston Road in Blurton, at 8.45pm. A spokesman for the fire service said the fire occurred in a timber and concrete shed on the site. A hose reel jet was used to tackle the blaze, which is believed to have been started deliberately.
